A Unique Brooklyn Camp for Kids

If you are searching for a Brooklyn spring break camp that offers more than just childcare, this is a great fit. Our camp blends physical activity, martial arts, creativity, and mindfulness into a day that keeps kids engaged while helping them grow.

Each day includes a mix of outdoor training, dojo practice, games, and creative enrichment. Children get the chance to build coordination, focus, resilience, and confidence while also having a genuinely fun day with other kids.

This camp is especially convenient for families in Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Gowanus, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, and Downtown Brooklyn.

What Makes This Camp Different

At Aikido of Park Slope, we believe kids thrive when they are challenged, encouraged, and supported. Our Spring Break Camp is designed to do exactly that.

What makes it stand out:

  • Small group size for more personalized attention

  • Open to both beginners and experienced students

  • A balance of movement, structure, and creativity

  • Rooted in Japanese martial arts traditions and nonviolent values

  • Led by children’s instructors with a combined 50 years of Aikido experience

This is not a camp built around competition or pressure. It is a place where kids can move their bodies, try new things, and feel proud of themselves.

What a Typical Camp Day Looks Like

Each day is structured to give kids variety, fresh air, focused training, and creative time.

Morning in Prospect Park

We begin outdoors with movement and conditioning, which may include:

  • Group warm up

  • A 1.5 mile run

  • Strength and conditioning drills

  • Age appropriate wooden weapons practice

  • Snack break and outdoor games

Midday at the Dojo

After our time outside, we head back to the dojo for:

  • Lunch break, packed from home

  • Creative enrichment such as origami, haiku, or storytelling

  • A focused Aikido class taught by certified instructors

The result is a full day that feels active, balanced, and meaningful.

What Happens if It Rains?

If the weather is light, camp may still include outdoor time. If heavier weather changes the plan, we simply shift to more indoor activities at the dojo. That means your child still gets a full and engaging camp day, even if conditions outside are not ideal.

Is This Camp Beginner Friendly?

Yes. No prior Aikido or martial arts experience is needed.

This camp is designed to be welcoming for children who are brand new as well as those who already train. Instructors adapt activities based on age, experience level, and comfort, so every child can participate safely and confidently.

Safety and Supervision

Your child’s well being is our top priority. Our instructors have extensive experience working with children, and the limited enrollment helps us maintain close supervision and strong staff attention throughout the day.

Activities are adjusted to fit each child’s age and ability, and we aim to create an atmosphere that is both energetic and calm, where children can challenge themselves while feeling supported.

What to Bring

Please send your child with:

  • Lunch

  • Water bottle

  • Comfortable sneakers and workout clothes for outdoor practice

  • Long sleeve shirt for indoor training

  • Optional change of clothes

  • Optional notebook or sketchpad for creative time

Why Aikido for Kids?

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that teaches balance, coordination, awareness, and peaceful conflict resolution. For children, it can be a powerful way to build confidence, focus, and self control without the pressure of competition.

At Aikido of Park Slope, we work to create a supportive community where children can develop physically and emotionally while learning skills that carry into everyday life.

Register for Spring Break Camp

Spots are limited, and this special spring break camp was added on short notice, so early registration is encouraged.

Whether your child joins us for one day or all three, this is a wonderful chance to spend spring break moving, learning, and having fun in a welcoming Brooklyn dojo community.
