A Brooklyn Institution since 1981

Adult Aikido at Park Slope

Aikido of Park Slope is Brooklyn's oldest and largest Aikido dojo, offering adult martial arts classes for beginners, returning students, and experienced practitioners.

If you are looking for self-defense, fitness, focus, stress relief, or a grounded community practice, Aikido offers a different kind of martial arts training: physical, challenging, non-competitive, and rooted in respect. No prior experience is needed to begin.

SERIOUS TRAINING, DEEP LINEAGE, WELCOMING COMMUNITY

Over 40 years of Aikido in Brooklyn.

Founded in 1981, Aikido of Park Slope has been a cornerstone of martial arts training in Brooklyn for over 40 years.

Our head instructor, Hal Lehrman, 7th Dan Aikikai, Shihan, is one of the most experienced Aikido practitioners in the United States. With more than five decades of practice and teaching, Hal has dedicated his life to sharing the art of Aikido. He also teaches at the New York Aikikai, the headquarters of the United States Aikido Federation under Yoshimitsu Yamada Shihan, 8th Dan.

APS is also home to a deep bench of experienced instructors and senior students.

Whether you are learning the basics or refining advanced technique, you will find knowledgeable partners ready to help you grow.

WHAT MAKES AIKIDO DIFFERENT?'

Movement, balance, and redirection.

Aikido is a martial art built around movement, balance, awareness, and redirection. Instead of relying on size, strength, or aggression, students learn how to move with pressure, take balance, protect themselves, and respond with control.

There are no tournaments and no competition. Students train together so everyone improves. For adults, Aikido can be a powerful practice for self-defense, fitness, focus, confidence, stress relief, and community.

WHY ADULTS TRAIN AT APS

Adults come to Aikido for different reasons.

Wherever you are starting from, we will meet you there.

A DOJO ROOTED IN COMMUNITY

Practice, learn, and grow.

Aikido of Park Slope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a member of the United States Aikido Federation. Our dojo is built on respect, patience, cooperation, and lifelong learning.

Training can be serious without being harsh. Classes can be challenging without being competitive. The goal is not to prove yourself. The goal is to practice, learn, and grow. We offer over 20 martial arts classes per week for adults, kids, teens, and beginners at 630 Sackett Street in Brooklyn, steps from the Union St R train.
