Taiko Masala Dojo at Aikido of Park Slope

Experience the thunderous energy of Japanese Taiko drumming in the heart of Brooklyn. Led by master drummer Hiro Kurashima, Taiko Masala brings precision, power, and community spirit to Aikido of Park Slope with weekly classes, open houses, and live demonstrations.

The Thunder Drumming Troupe

Taiko Masala has thrilled audiences across the United States with the traditional art of Taiko. By blending the discipline of Japanese martial arts with the power of complex ensemble rhythms, the troupe delivers visually stunning and breathless performances. Their handmade drums range from small hand-held instruments to towering five-foot barrels, and they feature the giant 250-pound O-daiko. Traditional Japanese instruments such as Shakuhachi, Fue, and Koto, along with dance, add richness and color to their programs.

Based in Brooklyn, the group’s mission is to share the joy of Taiko with as many people as possible through performance and education.

Open Houses and Community Showcases

Aikido of Park Slope partners with Taiko Masala to host regular open houses. These events introduce neighbors and friends to the resonance of Taiko, highlight beginner-friendly pathways, and welcome the community into our dojo. Open houses typically include demonstrations, mini lessons, and Q&A with the instructors.
