As the school year begins on Thursday, September 4, 2025, families around Brooklyn are looking to finalize after‑school schedules that support their children’s growth and well‑being. Fall is an ideal time to establish routines and help kids stay active, creative, and connected. Whether you're in Park Slope, Gowanus, Prospect Heights, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, or Downtown Brooklyn, here are some thoughtfully curated fall semester activity options for kids including why we at Aikido of Park Slope believe our program stands out.

Aikido of Park Slope — Kids and Teens Martial Arts

Designed for ages 6 to 17 (with exceptional 4 and 5-year-olds occasionally welcomed), Aikido is a non‑competitive martial art that emphasizes cooperation, focus, and respectful movement. Instead of sparring or grappling, students learn to redirect energy, safely fall, and navigate conflict with calm. The result? Greater confidence, improved focus, physical coordination, and a sense of belonging.

Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) Youth Studio Classes

Located in Park Slope, the Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) offers dynamic youth studio classes in dance, drama, tumbling, and creative performance. Led by professional teaching artists, these classes emphasize peer mentorship, self-expression, and building confidence through movement and ensemble work. With a Fall 2025 semester beginning September 8, early registration is encouraged.

Brooklyn Fencing Center - Youth Fencing Classes

For kids who enjoy precision, focus, and a touch of athletic challenge, the Brooklyn Fencing Center offers fencing classes for children aged 7 and up. Whether they’re novices or progressing toward competition, students develop agility, strategic thinking, and respectful sportsmanship in a structured, supportive environment. All equipment is provided for beginners.

Code Ninjas — Coding and Robotics in Gowanus

Based in Gowanus, Code Ninjas engages kids ages 5 to 14 with a game-based curriculum in coding, robotics, and digital creation. Whether through monthly or semester-long sessions, students build tech confidence while having fun.

14th Street Y — Enrichment After School (Downtown Manhattan, close to Downtown Brooklyn)

The 14th Street Y offers enrichment programming for Kindergarten to Grade 5, featuring two daily classes alongside snacks, school pick-up, and flexible scheduling. Activities span photography, chess, crafting, mad science, ballet, martial arts, and more, designed to engage kids through developmentally appropriate exploration and fun.

How to Get Started This Fall
